Getting to know three of the Earth’s great oceans
The surface of the Earth is 70 percent water. The vastest bodies of water are the oceans. There are five oceans in the world covering seemingly endless areas. Today’s blog will introduce first-time readers to three of the largest oceans. Paul M Willette
The Pacific Ocean
The size of the Pacific Ocean is simply mind-boggling. To put it in more simple terms, the Pacific Ocean is so huge that it covers over 30 percent of the surface of the planet. It also contains roughly a little over 45 percent of the world’s surface water. The Pacific Ocean is 165.25 million square kilometers (63.8 million square miles). Paul M Willette
The Atlantic Ocean
Next to the Pacific, there’s the Atlantic Ocean. Also quite vast in terms of surface area, which is around 106,400,000 square kilometers, or 41,100,000 square miles, the Atlantic lies between the continents of America and Europe/Africa. Its name means the Sea of Atlas, but Americans and the British more fondly refer to it as “The Pond.” Paul M Willette
The Indian Ocean
In third place is the Indian Ocean, which can be found between the Arabian Peninsula, Southeast Asia, and the continents of Africa and Australia. Also known as the Great Indian Sea, many countries are affected by, situated within, and depend on the Indian Ocean. Paul M Willette.
